Bringing the Salmon Home Festival

Help us make a collective splash

Through Bringing the Salmon Home: The Columbia River Salmon Reintroduction Initiative, salmon continue to express their power to unite and mobilize diverse communities along the river today.

The Indigenous-led public engagement launch of the Bringing the Salmon Home: The Columbia River Salmon Reintroduction Initiative in mid-May 2021 offers a vision, an invitation and a shared affirmation to work together to look at all opportunities to bring the salmon back to the upper Columbia River region.

Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities are invited to show their transboundary support by organizing Bringing the Salmon Home related events from the headwaters to the mouth of river. This may include holding local paddle journeys, or sending in stories, songs, videos, messages and artwork that can be shared through the CRSRI website and social media channels.

Most activities will be planned as virtual events in this week of public engagement outreach. Some on-location events may be possible, if COVID-19 limitations allow. The new CRSRI website will be the online portal to the daily line-up of workshops and special events. Join in discussions and special events with leaders and members of the Syilx Okanagan Nation, Ktunaxa Nation, Secwepemc Nation, Canada and British Columbia and diverse other Tribes and communities who care about the salmon and this great river.

The voices of youth, elders, knowledge keepers, scientists, poets, artists and musicians will be featured. Schools, libraries, museums and galleries are invited to organize and cross-promote Bringing the Salmon Home themed events.
